Imran Khan says govt will be responsible for consequences if it tortures PTI’s youth
Shah Mahmood and Shireen Mazari say Nov 30 rally will be a daylong event, no prolonged sit-in planned
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday repeated his warning to the government to not create hurdles in the way of the party’s “decisive rally” in the federal capital on Nov 30, saying the government itself will be responsible for the consequences as PTI’s youth will not submit to police torture “quietly”.Addressing the participants of the PTI sit-in at D-Chowk, Khan said that Nawaz Sharif and his supporters had attacked the Supreme Court and the then chief justice Sajjad Ali Shah had barely escaped an attempt on his life.
“Such a person deserves to be in prison, but unfortunately he has become the prime minister of the country,” he said.
He said on Sunday, one of the ‘courtiers’ of Nawaz Sharif had accused him of undue use of a plane. “Neither me nor Jahangir Tareen ever plundered the national wealth,” he added.
He asked the police to act in accordance with the constitution and not to obey unjust orders of the prime minister.
Addressing the personnel of the law enforcement agencies (LEAs), Imran reminded them that they are paid with the taxes of the people of Pakistan and they should not indulge in any illegal activity.
DAYLONG EVENT:
Meanwhile, senior PTI leaders said that the party’s Nov 30 rally will be a day-long public gathering and not a sit-in, and dismissed rumours of the possibility of a call by the PTI leadership to lay siege of state buildings.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a press conference in Multan that the party has so far held peaceful rallies.
“The temperament of the Nov 30 rally would depend upon the government’s attitude,” he said.
PTI Central Information Secretary Shireen Mazari also echoed Qureshi’s stance that PTI’s political gathering on Nov 30 would be a one-day event.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Mazari said that reports regarding PTI’s leadership’s plan to prolong the November 30 rally to a sit-in and call for massive protest demonstration in the federal capital were baseless.
The clarification from the political party came after federal authorities denied permission to conduct any political activity in Islamabad’s Red Zone area.
