Nankana court orders anti-terror case against Rasheed

Nankana Sahib District and Sessions Judge Rana Nisar on Monday ordered the registration of a case against Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for the “provocative speech” he delivered at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s rally held in Nankana Sahib on November 12.

A petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) youth wing’s district president stated that Rasheed’s speech was an incitement to the masses to openly confront state institutions.

The petition termed Rashid’s speech, in which he urged the masses to “kill, burn and besiege the government to rid the nation of corrupt rulers”, was “rebellion against the state”.

Rasheed had also warned the government of “judo karate” in case of any attempt to hinder PTI’s November 30 rally in Islamabad.

Police sources said a case would be registered against Rasheed at Nankana Sahib City Police Station after consultations between the station house officer and the Nankana district police officer (DPO).

Talking to a private news channel, Rasheed said that he was ready for such cases and added that he is the voice of 180 million people of Pakistan.

He said that if arrested, he would gladly go to prison.
