Shujaat asks supporters to be ready for LG polls

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Saturday urged his supporters and office bearers to gear up for local government elections, as he reiterated his party’s demand for the construction of the controversial Kalabagh Dam

Addressing a public gathering in Bahawalpur, Hussain said that a government can be formed through rigging, but it cannot survive.

“The anti-government protests have created awareness in the people,” he said, adding that the people of Bahawalpur had been deceived a number of times by being told that their city is going to become a province.

He said that Pakistan was faced with many internal and external threats.

“The government should not sit silent on the issue of Indian shelling at Line of Control (LoC),” he added.

Addressing the gathering, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that their party had started a series of rallies from the Drig Stadium in Bahawalpur.

Elahi said that they did not make fake promises but performed in the best interest of the people during their tenure. He challenged the government to see who has done better work for the people and the country by comparing PML-N’s 10 years and PML-Q’s five years of being in power.

He said that the formation of Kalabagh Dam is in interest of Cholistan and that if someone had issues over its name then it could be changed to ‘Pakistan Dam’.

Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Majlis Wahdat Mulimeen’s (MWM) Nasir Sherazi and other leaders of PML-Q also addressed the participants of the rally.
