CAD state minister says govt, society should work together to reduce gap between special children and society
Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development (CAD) Usman Ibrahim said Friday that the rehabilitation of special children and making them useful citizens by imparting education and training to them is the joint responsibility of the government and the society at large.
The minister was speaking at National Special Education Centre for Mentally Retarded Children to celebrate Universal Children’s Day.
He said that necessary framework in collaboration with United Nations Educational and Scientific Orgaization (UNESCO) was being prepared under which special children would get education at other schools. The social gap between special children and the society should be reduced, he observed.
Ibrahim said that a meeting would be convened next week for devising a comprehensive policy for the rehabilitation of special children, which would help them become a part of the social mainstream.
He said that the people and institutions serving the ailing humanity are “our precious assets” and their welfare efforts are commendable.
Ibrahim said that the government is giving special importance to social welfare projects, and added that solid steps have been taken for education and training of special children in the country.
“Islam stresses upon its followers to work for the welfare of humanity,” he said, adding that helping the downtrodden people is the best way to fulfil their rights.
The minister said that looking after special children is the best example of respect to humanity.
Emphasising the provision of a conducive atmosphere to enable special people to play their social role, Ibrahim said the West had institutionalised the helping of special people.
“There is no dearth of resources. But when we compare our society with the West regarding caring for special people, we lag far behind them,” he said.
