Death toll from insufficient health facilities at Sargodha DHQ Hospital has climbed to 15 as three more children breath their last on Friday.
Parents of the children who died over the past 24 hours had blamed insufficient oxygen supply in the nursery ward and negligence of hospital staff for the deaths.
The hospital management had, however, denied allegations and said that there was no deficiency of gas in any ward.
A senior doctor at the hospital Adilah said that there was indeed a lack of oxygen in the ward and each child was receiving far less oxygen than they required.
“The resources available to us are not sufficient, however, we are doing our best,” she said.
She further explained that there were very few incubators to cater to the increasing number of children being admitted to the ward.
The latest victims were a two-day old girl and a pair of twins.
A three-member investigation committee – formed to investigate the tragedy – had sent a comprehensive report on the matter to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
