Rwp commissioner assures ‘frustrated’ traders that Metro project will be completed by Jan 30, blames sit-ins for one-month delay in completion deadline
Rawalpindi Commissioner Captain (r) Zahid Saeed has dismissed rumours of delay in completion of the Metro Bus Project in the twin cities and assured traders of the twin cities that the project will be completed by January 30, 2015 at all costs.
“The project was initially supposed to be completed by December 31, 2014 but due to the anti-government protest sit-ins, the pace the project was slowed down. The Punjab government is grateful to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and all the traders for their support and patience,” said the commissioner.
“The government is fully aware of the problems faced by the business community and every possible measure will be taken to complete the project on time,” he told RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi during a visit to the chamber on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mashadi said that the business community and citizens of Rawalpindi are facing immense problems due to construction of the Metro Bus Project. He said that business activities on Murree Road have almost come to a standstill owing to the transport project and the business community is facing huge financial losses already.
“Any possible delay can badly affect the economic uplift of the region,” said the RCCI head and demanded the commissioner to ensure the completion of the construction work within the stipulated timeframe.
“The Metro Bus System for Rawalpindi was the demand of RCCI and the chamber appreciates Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s vision to establish MBS in Rawalpindi in one year’s time,” said the chamber’s president
He said the chamber facilitated the Punjab government and resolved every hurdle which could affect the mega project.
Mashadi also expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation of the city, shortage of parking plazas in business centres and the large number of encroachments and requested the commissioner to resolve these issues at the earliest.
