In lieu of fuel price adjustment for the month of October, details submitted by the ministry of water and power on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif enabled the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to slash the power tariff by Rs 0.46.
The move is set to bring relief to the consumers in their monthly electricity bills after due clearance from NEPRA, the PM House revealed.
The government has accordingly submitted fuel consumption and energy mix details with NEPRA for the month of October 2014.
Hydel sources have contributed 38.46 per cent in the overall energy mix while RFP 33.40 per cent, gas 18.30 per cent, HSD 2.95, nuclear 4.85 per cent and the rest by the remaining sources. A total of 8,326.37 GWh energy was produced during the month of October 2014.
The NEPRA will now conduct a public hearing on the government’s submitted details and will notify the reduction in tariff accordingly. The ministry of water and power, also on the PM’s orders, is following a strict merit order for electricity generation to ensure efficient and economical fuel mix in the power generation to benefit the consumers.
