PNF dismisses Sindh Nursing Council Bill

Pakistan Nursing Forum (PNF) on Thursday staged a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club against approval of Sindh Nursing Council Bill in Sindh Assembly and said that the decision would destroy the nursing education in the Sindh province.

A large number of nursing students carrying placards and banners inscribed with different slogans like “Save Pakistan Nursing Council, Save Nursing”, “We Want Justice, Sindh Nursing Council not Acceptable”, “We Reject Provincial Body and Don’t Damage Nursing”.

Senior member PNF Saleem Michael said Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) is the symbol of national dignity and prestige at international level as its degrees are recognized and respected worldwide. He said approval of bill regarding the formation of Sindh Nursing Council (SNC) from Sindh Assembly is condemnable and such steps would be seen as a tantamount to destroy the nursing education.

He said PNF had categorically rejected the formation of SNC and we would not accept the division of PNC in such way. He urged the authorities concerned to withdraw this decision, otherwise they would enlarge the circle of protest across the province.

He demanded Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of the situation and withdraw the decision of SNC formation.

Information Secretary, Provincial Nurses Association (PNA) Karachi Division, Heera Lal said formation decision of SNC had been taken on urgent basis without any policy and vision. He said no any provincial nursing body and organization had been taken onboard before tabling the bill in assembly.

He said policy of government was still unclear about formation of SNC. He said this decision had been taken without any policy and vision that could destroy nursing education.

Talking to media persons, Qayyaum Khan Marwat said nursing education had already in deteriorated state in province as examination had been delayed for several months in such circumstances.
