Islamabad wants cordial ties with Kabul for regional peace: FO

Forty-two important decisions related to economy, trade, connectivity and people-to-people contacts were made between Afghanistan and Pakistan during Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s recent visit to the country, said Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Thursday.

In her weekly briefing, she said that Pakistan wants “healthy” and “cordial” relations with Kabul for peace and stability in the region, adding that Pakistan is carrying out several projects regarding Afghanistan’s development.

To a query regarding Pakistan and Russia relations, the spokesperson said that Pakistan considers Russia as an important global player which can play a crucial role in regional stability and development.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu is currently in Islamabad on an official visit.

“Pakistan’s ties with Moscow are moving in an upward trajectory,” said the FO spokesperson.

Islamabad seeks Moscow’s cooperation for social and economic development, she added.

On the Kashmir issue, the spokesperson said that Jammu and Kashmir is an established conflict and the United Nations (UN) Security Council provides a platform to discuss the conflicts.

Pakistan has urged UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan to play an effective role regarding ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

She said that 55,000 people have sacrificed their lives to terrorism in Pakistan, adding that our armed forces have taken a robust action against terrorists without any distinction or discrimination.
