Hitting out at the federal government for not extending any support to the province, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday said that the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) is a “burden” on the resources of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.

“We are bearing the burden of three million IDPs but the federation is not cooperating at all. A single provincial government is not equipped to handle this,” the PTI chief said while speaking to the journalists after attending the health reforms session.

However, he did say that the KP government was considering the possibility of recruiting IDPs for its police force. “We have written a letter to federation for the recruitment of police,” he said.

The PTI chief alleged that the federation was trying to “fail” the KP government and he will take the matter to the Supreme Court. “We have decided to move SC to raise the issue of provincial rights as we are not getting adequate supply of gas, water and electricity.”

Speaking on healthcare issues, Khan said that providing healthcare facility to the people of the province was PTI’s priority and that the provincial government will address reservations of the doctors and healthcare professionals.

“Currently, our provincial government is facing an issue of 500,000 patients,” the PTI chairman said.

The PTI chief also addressed issues pertaining to the hospital he established to treat unprivileged cancer patients. “Everyone knows the hospital is not running properly. We want to make it autonomous. Issues of the hospital will not be resolved by a minister visiting it — that is something Shahbaz Sharif does.”

Khan also spoke about the country’s development, stating that it would only occur in a country if the government invests in people. “You need structural change. Invest in education and health rather than showing off and building bridges.”

Responding to the Awami National Party’s (ANP) allegations, Khan said that the ANP should wait for three years, adding that everyone knows the amount of corruption that happened during the ANP’s tenure.
