The medal was conferred during Gen Raheel’s visit to the Pentagon, where he also held important meeting with top US military officials.
The COAS held meetings with US Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Gen Martin Dempsey, Secretary of Defense Robert Work and Commander US Marines Gen Joseph Dunford.
The focus of these meetings remained on regional security, Afghanistan and long-term military-to-military relations between the two countries, DG ISPR said in his Twitter message.

Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby in a statement said that the leaders discussed regional security issues and their commitment to an enduring partnership. They also emphasized the importance of sustained and substantive dialogue as we continue to develop the bilateral military-to-military relationship.
This was Gen. Sharif’s first official visit to the United States since becoming the chief of army staff in November 2013.
Raheel shareef is certainly one of the best COAS , Pakistan has seen in as many years. His decision not to side with politicos in the recent anti government sit ins has set a new precendence of long sighted ness and professionalism. Without a doubt he is taking Pakistan in the right way forward.
you can jugde a man through his actions / inaction and his inaction to become party to any political wranglings going on nowadays speaks volume of his vision and judgement
Eventually some thing will break ? Perhaps then it may not be possible for the COAS to stay neutral. Pervez did not want to enter the politics either, he was forced to.
Meetings between our military and civilian leadership are very important for the sake of peace in the region. This also shows the importance of keeping the bilateral dialogue going between the two countries. There is no denying that the region is in conflict for decades and the only way out of it is for all parties work together to diminish the threats of extremism, terrorism and transnational crimes. We also know that unless we keep meeting at the highest level and resolve issues pertaining to the region, peace will not be possible and unless we have peace, prosperity will be hard to come by for a common person in the region.
Earlier Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout: "Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey met with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Raheel Sharif today at the Pentagon. The leaders discussed regional security issues and their commitment to an enduring partnership. They also emphasized the importance of sustained and substantive dialogue as we continue to develop the bilateral military-to-military relationship.”
