The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment cell director to remove the unlawful construction from two amenity plots earmarked for the public park and playground in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area and submit compliance report by December 8.
The two-judge bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah also issued directions to the SSP concerned to provide necessary backup to the KMC officials in undertaking the task. The court further instructed that in case of law and order situation, the SSP might seek support from Rangers personnel by writing to Rangers’ wing commander.
The court issued these directions while hearing a petition filed by the Naumania Welfare Trust which moved the court against unlawful construction of structures on two plots kept for PublicPark in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
The petitioner, NGO’s representative, had submitted that two amenity plots, ST-41 and 42 in Gulistan e Jauhar, earmarked for the park and playground, were encroached upon by the private respondents in cahoots with KMC officials and area police. He added that they converted the amenity plots to be used for commercial and residential purposes.
The petitioner said earlier the court had restrained authorities concerned from allowing illegal construction on the plots. However, he added that despite court order, the encroachers were raising the construction on the plots under the supervision of area police.
