The Sindh Assembly has asked the provincial government to take solid steps for better protection of minorities, especially ensuring to check the incidents of kidnapping and forced marriages of girls belonging to scheduled caste minorities in Sindh province.
The assembly unanimously passed a private resolution of Nand Kumar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) which said that this assembly resolves and recommends the government of Sindh to take appropriate action against the kidnapping of Hindu minor girl Anjli Menghwar. Members of both treasury and opposition benches fully supported the resolution and asked the government to ensure laws against child marriage, forced marriages and forced conversion.
PPPP MPA Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi took the name of PML-F head Pir Pagara during his speech on private resolution of Nand Kumar, on which PML-F members Nand Kumar, Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi and other protested. Leader of the opposition also protested on this issue. However, the speaker said adjourned the session as the time of sitting had already been over.
As usual, the house met late than its scheduled time and the quorum was broken when the sitting started. However, the chair ignored the quorum.
Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani of the MQM tabled an adjournment motion to discuss the matter of apprenticeship/vocational training Center Murshidabad, SITE, Hyderabad. The house decided to discuss the adjourning motion next day. It was the private members’ day. There were five questions on the agenda and four of them were answered. However, the member requested that one question should be re-submitted. Two short notice questions were asked one each by Muhammad Hussain (MQM) and Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi (PML-F) which were answered by the respective ministers.
Lastly, the chair adjourned the house till Wednesday, November 19, 10:00am.
