Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza held a protest sit-in outside Badin deputy commissioner’s office to draw the government’s attention towards the “corrupt practices” of the officials of the district administration.
“I have brought Rs2 million in cash to grease the palms of the district officials in order to get the people’s legitimate issues resolved,” Mirza reportedly said in a bid to highlight that the district officials’ do not pay heed to the locals’ issues without securing bribes.
Officials of the district administration have surpassed all records of loot and plunder, alleged Mirza.
The officials are seeking hefty bribes for matters as petty as issuance of birth certificates all the way to matters pertaining to the transfer of land allotments.
“Through this sit-in, I expect to make government officials aware of these malpractices,” said Mirza.
Mirza served as Sindh home minister during the Pakistan People’s Party-led government from 2008-2013. He was elected from Badin.
It is worth mentioning that Mirza’s son, Hassnain Mirza, is a sitting member of the Sindh Assembly and was elected from Badin.
