The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Tuesday accepted for hearing a plea seeking acceptance of resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians and holding of by-elections.
According to media reports, the petition was submitted by Arsalan Iftikhar, son of former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry, at the Rawalpindi Bench of the LHC.
The petition prayed before the court for the acceptance of resignations of PTI parliamentarians in the National Assembly (NA) and issuance of directions to the government to hold by-elections on the seats vacated thereafter.
The order regarding acceptance of the plea was announced by Justice Mazhar Iqbal.
PTI lawmakers in the NA have submitted their resignations but NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has yet to accept them.
