Addressing journalists after a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders’ meeting in London, former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari Monday said that PPP paid a heavy price for democracy by losing former party chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Zardari said that losing against terrorism was not an option and that the mindsets had to be fought with in order to win the war against terrorism.

The former president said that PPP fought dictatorship for 10 years, adding that it was for the first time that a democratic government completed its tenure in Pakistan while continuing reconciliation with the allies.

Talking about Pakistan-India relations, Zardari said that dialogue was critical for resolution of problems. He said PPP wanted to highlight the Kashmir dispute as well but the Indian government was not willing to step forward for talks.

Earlier during the meeting, PPP leaders discussed important issues including the ongoing political situation in the country and the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) among other party matters.
