Five more infants have passed away due to malnutrition in the drought-stricken Tharparkar district on Sunday. With these new deaths, the toll has reached 79 in the last 47 days.
A six-month-old died in Mithhi Civil Hospital, while a four-year-old passed away in Hyderabad Hospital where he was shifted for treatment. The ongoing drought has claimed around 500 lives in three years.
On November 14, the Sindh High Court had directed the provincial government to submit a report on deaths in drought-hit Tharparkar by November 25.
Earlier this month, the provincial government had also appealed to foreign donors to help mitigate the drought situation.
