Mazari got it wrong. No PTI worker died in Jehlum firing

PTI leader Alvi says party leaders were ‘misinformed’ about worker’s death

Mazari says PTI does not support militancy nor did Khan instigate attack on PTV HQs

Says PTI not responsible for Sheikh Rasheed’s diction, demeanour

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi on Monday clarified that the injured activist who was shot on Sunday in Jhelum is in fact alive, contrary to a claim made by PTI Central Information Secretary Shireen Mazari in a press conference earlier in the day.

During the press conference, Mazari had said that PTI worker Adnan had succumbed to his injuries following an incident of firing by “Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers” which had injured nine PTI workers.

The case for Adnan’s murder would be lodged against Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Mazari had said.

However, the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Jhelum administration denied Mazari’s claim and said that Adnan was alive and under treatment.

Talking to a private news channel, PTI leader Alvi said, “We were misinformed (about the ‘death’) but it is a blessing that Adnan is alive and getting better.”

Alvi said that PTI leaders had tried to confirm the incident but were provided wrong information.

‘PTI DOESN’T SUPPORT TERRORISTS’:

During the press conference on Monday, Mazari said that supporting and backing militants and terrorists is not PTI’s culture, refuting Information Minister Pervez Rashid’s claim made a day earlier that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has a “soft corner” for terrorists and has also “outsourced terrorists to create panic amongst the masses”.

“It seems that the information minister has forgotten that the PTI chairman backed the decision to launch Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan Agency (NWA),” said Mazari. Mazari denied the government’s claims that PTI was involved in the attack on state institutions.

She said that Khan had condemned the attack on Pakistan Television (PTV) Headquarters in Islamabad and that PTI does not believe in politics of vandalism. Therefore, the warrants against PTI leaders are nothing but mockery, she added.

“The government has lost its equilibrium, none of the PTI leaders are in hiding neither do they have armed guards; the police can arrest them anytime (if they have done anything against the law),” said Mazari.

“PML-N had introduced the culture of attacking state institutions,” alleged Mazari, as she told Rashid to recall the attack by PML-N on the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

She further clarified that PTI is not responsible for Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad’s diction and demeanour.
