The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Monday that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had decided to take action against Future Concern owner Asim Malik and his wife Zobia Rubab under the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA).

FIA Punjab Director Usman Anwar stated this before Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi who was hearing petitions filed by various affectees against Asim Malik for allegedly swindling money from them on account of sending abroad.

The FIA director submitted that the accused had 56 accounts and financial transactions with different banks, as per the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). He said that efforts were being made for dismissal of Asim Malik’s application for political asylum in the United Kingdom and the agency was in contact with the High Commission for the purpose.

He said that the FIA had sealed Asim Malik’s house in Islamabad. However, the accused’s property in Sargodha could not be auctioned due to low bid offer and it was postponed for a week, he added.

The affectees told the court that Asim Malik’s relatives were influencing the auction process.

However, the court observed that justice would be ensured at all costs. The court adjourned further hearing till November 24.
