Govt to expedite working on Saaf Pani Project

Provision of potable water to the masses is responsibility of the state and the government will discharge this responsibility come what may, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while presiding over a high level meeting which reviewed progress on Saaf Pani Project (SPP) on Saturday.

Shahbaz said that water filtration plants would be installed under the SPP and this important project would be furthered speedily.

He said that the project of provision of clean drinking water was of paramount importance for protecting the citizens against water borne diseases.

The chief minister said that this mega project of public welfare would be completed speedily. He said the government was spending billions of rupees on this project and will ensure provision of clean drinking water to every citizen.

He said that the SPP will directly affect the health of the people and provision of healthy environment and best public health facilities to citizens is one of top priorities of the government.

The chief minister said that the SPP was being started in 18 districts in the first phase and later, its scope would be extended to the entire province.

He said that Saaf Pani Sahulat Centres would be set up under the project and jobs would be provided to the local youth for running these centres.

The Saaf Pani Company CEO informed about the salient features of the project. Minister for housing Tanvir Aslam Malik, Planning and Development chairman and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
