Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has said that despite limited resources and financial constraints, the government is fully committed to promote medical education and make the syllabus of medical education particularly dentistry at par with internal level.
The government is fully committed to explore the hidden talent of the youth so that the future generation could play pivotal role for the socio-economic development of the country, he said while speaking as chief guest at the concluding session of two days long national dental conference on dentistry and inauguration of Dentistry Skill Lab at the main auditorium of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro on Saturday evening.
The governor said that state-of-the-art Dentistry Skill Lab wass a unique lab of the country and it would help the BDS students to get required training of dentistry without giving pain to patients. Such types of laboratories should be established in other medical universities of the country, he added.
Praising the efforts of the management of Liaquat University of Medical Health and Sciences, he said that after receiving the status of university in 2001, the management had not only played important role in medical education but also doing a lot in medical research which provided benefits to thousands of graduates and postgraduates who were now providing services not only in the country but also abroad.
The introduction of new syllabus of public health and medical ethics and bringing the syllabus in the semester systems is indicating great achievement in the medical field, he said, adding that change in the syllabus of dentistry was also the need of the hour. He assured that the suggestions and recommendations prepared by the participants of the conference would be forwarded to the Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council so that the syllabus of dentistry could be brought at par with international level.
Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Noshad A Shaikh in his welcome address informed that a total of 700 dentists from different parts of the country took part in the first-ever dental education conference where 12 papers were presented including organising of four workshops.
He informed that Dentistry Skill Lab had been established at a cost of Rs 18 millions where 25 phantoms with camera installations are available for the BDS students.
