The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Friday that six new jails would be made operational in one month.
This was stated by DIG Jails Malik Mubashir who appeared before Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza in connection with a petition filed by Rida Qazi for the construction of new jails in the province.
The DIG submitting a report told that construction of six new jails including High Security Prison in Southern Punjab (Sahiwal), District Jail Pakpattan, District Jail Bhakkar, District Jail Layyah, District Jail Okara and family rooms at Lahore Central Jail had been completed.
He said that the staff had also been recruited and the jails would be made operational within one month.
However, the petitioner’s counsel Muazzam Ali Shah termed the report incomplete and said that the report did not have details about the 11 other jails which were being constructed in the province.
Upon this, the court ordered the DIG jails to submit details regarding the remaining 11 jails by December 15 and adjourned the matter.
