Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Athar Minullah Friday expressed wonder at what message will go to the people if rigging has taken place in annual polls of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
He gave these remarks during the course of hearing of a petition filed in IHC by Abdul Sattar, candidate for the office of SCBA president from Hamid Khan group against SCBA annual Elections 2014-15.
Advocate Chaudhry Ikram appeared on behalf of the petitioner and told the court that rigging has been committed in the SCBA annual elections for the year 2014-15. He said that the official counting of the election votes was not done and the result was also not provided to the rival candidate. Therefore, he requested the court that re-elections be ordered.
Justice Minullah remarked, “Why was a committee comprising senior office bearers was not constituted to settle the matter of SCBA polls?”
“If rigging has been committed in these polls then what message will go to the people,” he said.
The counsel for the petitioner told the court, “We want to settle this matter.”
The court while issuing notices to the attorney general (AG) and SCBA President Fazal Haq Abbasi has sought replies from them.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till November 17.
