The government has constituted the National Commission for Minorities to prevent acts of violence such as recent lynching and burning of a couple at Kot Radha Kishan, said Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf.
Talking to journalists during his visit to the family of the deceased couple at Chak 59, Kot Radha Kishan on Friday, Yousuf said that representatives of all the religions including Muslims, Christians, Hindu, Parsi, Sikh and others would be a part of the commission.
He said it is for the first time that any government has constituted such a commission which will be empowered to take immediate action in case of any such incident in future.
The minister announced compensation of Rs 500,000 for the family as well as employment for heirs of the couple.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited the family on the direction of the prime minister for condolence and assurance of the government’s support in the case.
The minister said the prime minister was deeply concerned over the matter and a report regarding the arrest of culprits was being presented to him daily. Some of the accused have been arrested and police is conducting raids to catch the remaining suspects, he added.
