Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Saturday planted a sapling at the Memorial Garden, Shakarparian, Islamabad.

Federal Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi accompanied the foreign dignitary, besides Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal.

Ghani is 122nd foreign and fourth Afghan leader to plant the sapling at the Memorial Garden. He planted the Chir Pine tree.

The CDA chairman briefed the foreign dignitary about the making of federal capital and tradition of tree plantation at the site.

The previous foreign dignitary planting the sapling at the Garden in April last was South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hongwon.

The tradition of tree plantation by visiting guest at the garden began on February 21, 1964, when Zhou Enlai, the first premier of the People’s Republic of China, sowed a seed of the Chinese Tallow Tree.

The Afghan president took a view of Islamabad from Shakarparian and praised the natural beauty of the city. The foreign dignitary also visited the Pakistan Monument and witnessed the beautiful structure.
