Senate Secretariat Employees Society scam main accused ‘nabbed’

Rawalpindi National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested main accused Additional Secretary Syed Mussarat Abbas Shah Naqvi and Muhammad Akram of Senate of Pakistan in Senate Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society Islamabad on charges of corruption and corrupt practices / cheating public at large (misutilisation and embezzlement of the funds of the society). Naqvi in connivance with other accused reportedly cheated the public at large in funds of the society and deprived them of millions of rupees.

NAB had received complaint regarding gross irregularities in the audit report of above-mentioned society for year 2010. It was alleged in the complaint that the members of the society’s former management were responsible for all the irregularities.

The major points raised in the audit report were incomplete books of accounts, failure on the part of ex-management and ex-purchase committee to hold its meetings, indulging of society management in litigation cases and committing irregularities in purchase of land. The accused are alleged to have misutilised and embezzled funds of the society amounting to Rs 92 million approximately.
