Rashid says PM is out to fetch investment for energy

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said prime minister’s visit to China, Germany and Britain will help attract investment in the country particularly in the energy sector.

In an interview with Radio Pakistan Thursday, the minister said as a result of foreign investment, economic activities will be enhanced, employment opportunities will be created and price hike will come down.

The information minister said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is visiting foreign countries keeping in view the need of the country. He said Pakistan is in dire need of cheap electricity. He said projects worth $ 42 billion were signed during prime minister’s visit to China.

Of these projects of 34 billion dollars were in the energy sector. He said the priority projects are relating to generation of cheap electricity which are coal based.

Rashid said the prime minister during his visit to Germany met businessmen and addressed investment conference there. He said German investors have assured to do investment in Pakistan.

The information minister said prime minister’s Britain tour is also aimed at attracting investment to Pakistan. He said the prime minister is taking these tours in a simple way with very small delegations. He termed these visits very productive for the country.

On political front, the information minister said dharna (sit-ins) politics have caused losses to country’s economic, political and social structure. He said sit-ins politics has slowed down the process of development. However, he said people have not accepted dharnas.
