Health teams on Friday claimed to have achieved polio vaccination target set for high risk areas of the city, cantonment, Tehsil Taxila and rural areas under a five-day drive which concluded on November 14.
Health Executive District Officer (EDO-Health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal said over 162,000 children below five years of age were administered anti-polio drops during the campaign launched in 13 union councils of Rawalpindi city, five wards of Rawalpindi Cantonment, six union councils of Tehsil Taxila and five union councils of Tehsil Rawalpindi.
All localities, during the regular anti-polio drive, were declared high-risk areas after having confirmed reports of presence of polio virus there, he said.
He said the purpose of launching the special drive is the presence of people coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in these areas, especially after sewage samples from these areas indicated the presence of polio virus.
