LHC issues notice to govt on plea for minorities’ rights

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday issued notice to the Punjab government and Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) for November 18 on a petition for effective enforcement of minorities’ rights.

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza issued notice on a petition filed by Javed Gill.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that the Supreme Court (SC) had directed for effective enforcement of fundamental rights of the minorities while hearing a suo moto notice regarding Peshawar Church attack case. But, the Apex Court’s directions had not been implemented by the federal and provincial governments yet, he added.

The counsel said that recent couple lynching incident at Kot Radha Kishan was a violation of minorities’ right despite clear directions of the SC.

He prayed the court to direct authorities concerned for effective implementation of the court’s order for minorities’ rights.

He further requested the court to direct authorities to take measures for protection of minorities.

The court after hearing initial arguments issued notice to the respondents and sought reply by November 18.
