Imran, Qadri declared absconders for attack on SSP

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday declared Imran Khan and Tahir-ul- Qadri as absconders, a private news channel reported.

According to the report, leaders of anti-government protests in Islamabad; Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tahir-ul Qadri of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, were declared absconders in a case pretaining to the attack on Asmatullah Junejo; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on September 1.

Junejo was attacked by stick-wielding PTI and PAT protestors during the storming of Pakistan Television (PTV) Headquarters and the precincts of the Parliament.

A case was filed against the attackers with the Secretariat Police.

On Wednesday, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for Imran, Qadri and leaders of PTI and PAT for the attack on PTV building and the Parliament.

Protestors had stormed the PTV building on Sep 1, taking off the transmission of the state-owned media channels temporarily and damaging equipment. The transmission was restored after army requested the protestors to vacate the building.
