LTC to introduce E-Ticketing to facilitate passengers, commuters

By transforming the traditional transport culture into modernised urban transport system, Lahore Transport Company (LTC) has established a benchmark in providing efficient, safe and affordable transport facilities to the general public, said LTC Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan while presiding a contract signing ceremony of E-Ticketing at the Chief Minister Secretariat on Wednesday.

Later, LTC CEO Khawaja Haider Latif and Tracker Pakistan Ltd (TPL) CEO Muhammad Ali Jamil signed the contract. On this occasion, Punjab Assembly Member Ramzan Siddique Bhatti, Chief Technical Officer Badiur Rehman, Chief Financial Officer Mariam Khawar, COO Omer Pirzada, Deputy Head of Communication Nasir Hussain and other senior officials were also present.

E-Ticketing system is being introduced to prevent pilferages in fare collection system and to ascertain the subsidy being given to the private transport operators in transparent manner, he said.

“It will also assist to get precise statistics regarding usage of free transport facilities to the senior and disabled citizens and concessional student green cards,” he added.

This public friendly and cost effective system would encourage the foreign investors to make investment in urban transport system and this system will soon be implemented on all the operational urban routes of buses, he added.

By introduction of the new system, passenger travelling on the bus will apprise the conductor about the desired destination. The conductor will type it into the handheld device, which will give a ticket printout for the passenger. The device will be equipped with WiFi, GPRS and GPS, so it will send real time data of passengers to a centralised computer monitoring system for fare collection analysis. The main data centre will also be able to monitor the movement of the buses through a GPS device installed in the buses. Afterwards Chief Technical Officer Badiur Rehman and TPL CEO Ali Jameel briefed the exquisite features of the E-ticketing system that will cater the transport needs of densely populated city.
