Five hideouts, ammunition depot also destroyed, Corps commanders resolve to continue Zarb-e-Azb, Khyber operations till elimination of terrorists from the country
At least 19 militants including a key commander were killed Wednesday during airstrikes in Sandapal and Akakhel areas of Khyber Agency. Five militant hideouts and an ammunition depot in the area was also destroyed, said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The strikes were carried out as part of Operation Khyber-I launched earlier to target Lashkar-e-Islam, a Taliban faction that has strongholds in Khyber Agency.
Meanwhile, the 176th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at General Headquarters Wednesday expressed resolve to continue Operation Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-I till the elimination of terrorists from the regions and vowed that terrorists will not be allowed to regroup and return to the country.
Receiving a briefing of the security situation of the country with particular reference to the ongoing military offensives in the country’s south-west, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif expressed satisfaction over the progress made by the troops in the fight against terrorists. He also lauded the sacrifices rendered by the security forces.
Chairing the routine monthly meeting, the COAS directed all officials concerned to make sincere efforts for the assistance and early rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan and Khyber.
