SHC seeks autopsy report of PAF officer

The Sindh High Court (SHC) expressed displeasure over the non-compliance of its order regarding submission of a post-mortem report of a Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) squadron leader in the court and directed the chief federal law officer to look into the matter personally and ensure compliance of its order.

A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh was hearing a petition filed by Mehrun Nisa through which she sought court directives for secretary defence and the base commander, PAF Minhas Base, to supply her the copies of her son’s autopsy, enquiry and annual medical check-up reports.

Sadia Shehzad, counsel for petitioner, submitted that the petitioner’s son, squadron leader Sadiq Anwar Qazi died in July 2012 while performing his duty due to a cardiac arrest although he had not developed heart problem before and the annual general medical check-up of the deceased in 2012 had also not mentioned any such disease.

She said the deceased’s legal heirs were not satisfied with the account of squadron leader’s death communicated to them by PAF officials as they believed that he might have been killed.

The counsel said the petitioner addressed a letter and subsequent reminders to the PAF Minhas Base commander seeking probe into the cause of death and providing them a copy of autopsy report but could elicit no response. Therefore, she requested the court to order official respondent to supply his autopsy report.
