A delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), led by its vice president Mohammad Ashfaq Chatha, called on lawmakers Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Mian Abdul Manan and Rana Mohammad Afzal Khan and apprised them of the traders’ issues so that they may highlight the same in the Parliament.

Speaking at the occasion, Senator Shah said that Manan had presented the bill of a new Rent Control Act in the National Assembly, which has been sent to the Standing Committee for consideration. He hoped that soon Islamabad will have a new balanced rent law, which will take care of the interests of both landlords and tenants.

He said businessmen are playing important role in the economic development of the country and the government is determined to provide them maximum facilitation for promoting business activities with ease. He said private sector is the driver of economic growth and government is taking measures to support the private sector to become major partner in steering the economy out of current troubles.

Manan said that the government was cognizant of the difficulties being faced by the tenants and landlords in Islamabad due to unavailability of rent control act and he has presented the bill of a balanced rent law for making it into a law, which will serve the interests of both parties.

Speaking at the occasion, ICCI VP Chatha thanked the lawmakers for their supportive role towards the businessmen and added that their presence in Parliament is a source of confidence for the whole business community of the country. He said the current economic situation of the country demands that public and private sectors should join hands to pull the country out of stagnation and said that ICCI would fully support all policies of the government aimed at facilitating the private sector and improving the economy.

He was hopeful that the enactment of rent bill into law would start a new era of positive relations between tenants and landlords and facilitate the better growth of business activities.
