Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a written reply from the Interior Ministry in the Ghulam Ahmad Rabbani case, a Pakistani national who has been detained in Guantanamo Bay since last 12 years.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minullah took up the case for hearing Friday.
Mirza Shahzad Akbar, counsel for the petitioner, appeared in the court and said that Rabbani is Pakistani citizen and was a resident of Karachi. During former president Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, he was arrested by agencies. He was kept in different parts of the country after arrest and later the government handed him over to US authorities, said the counsel.
He further told the court that no charges had been proven against Rabbani but the government was not taking any steps for securing his release.
The court sought a reply in writing from the Interior Ministry and issued notices to the Interior Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defence.
