A minor girl was raped by the son of a landlord in the Tahta Joyo village, Okara district’s Qasba Akber area on Friday.
The eight-year-old girl, who was a labourer’s daughter, was abducted and raped after she left her home to buy milk.
The girl’s mother and maternal uncle took her to a nearby hospital where doctors after examining the victim confirmed that she had been subjected to sexual assault.
The victim’s family members accused the local police of non-cooperation.
“We are poor hard-working people. We went to the police station but no one heard our pleas over there because the accused are landlords,” a relative of the girl said.
The victimss’ family appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, demanding justice for the girl and arrest of the perpetrators.
A First Information Report (FIR) of the incident was lodged at the Saddar Bugera Police Station. Police officials also claimed that raids were being conducted for the arrest of the accused and said he would be apprehended soon.
