Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed on Friday said the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was making efforts to alleviate the suffering of the common man through aggressive economic policies and the premier’s visit to China was one of the means to achieve the objective.
Speaking in Channel 24’s talk show DNA hosted by Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami and Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, the information minister said that Pakistan’s economic progress had been hindered due to the sit-in protests in Islamabad. He said that the PM would be signing several MoUs with the Chinese government during his visit which would usher in a new era of progress in Pakistan.
On PML-N Senator Zulfiqar Khosa’s recent statements targeting the party leadership, Rasheed said that the senior politician was facing challenges within his family as his two sons had joined other parties and were damaging the PML-N in Dera Ghazi Khan.
“Despite these issues, the party honoured his services and struggle for PML-N and awarded him a Senate ticket,” said the minister, adding that he would not make any further comments on the senior Khosa’s allegations of nepotism and lack of governance on the Sharifs, saying it would lead to a flurry of statements.
Senator Taj Haider of the PPP also appeared on the show and spoke on the famine situation in Thar.
He said that 413 people had died due to famine caused by drought in the desert region since 2013, adding that the Sindh government was trying to ensure steady supply of food ration and medical facilities to the hapless citizens.
However, he refused to comment on the show cause notices issued to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Manzoor Wassan, saying the party chairman was himself supervising the issue.
He also dodged a question on rumours of a change of leadership in the Sindh government.
