Govt, opposition, PTI agree on Rana Bhagwan Das for CEC post

Retired senior judge Rana Bhagwan Das is likely to be instated as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following an agreement between the government and opposition parties, a private news channel reported.

According to the report, the government, opposition parties in the National Assembly as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership have unanimously agreed on Das’s appointment as the CEC.

The report adds that senior senator Raza Rabbani has now been assigned the task to convince the retired judge to take charge of the election body.

Das has served as the acting chief justice during 2007’s judicial crises as well as the the chairman of Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

  1. As usual, PTI's stance is full of self-contradictions…

    It threatens not to accept CEC with political affiliations, but nominates Nasir Aslam Zahid whom PTI had nominated as its candidate in the Presidential election of 2013.

    These guys simply want to stay in the media limelight and therefore take millions of U-Turns!
