The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday said that the federal government and other representatives of Prime Minister’s Youth Loan Scheme (PMYLS) should submit their written replies until November 11 on the petition filed against Maryam Nawaz’ appointment as chairperson of the programme.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC was hearing the case. Zubair Niazi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) presented his stance before court that Maryam had been appointed as the PMYLS chairperson but the terms and conditions for her appointment had allegedly not been met. This appointment was made on political grounds and should be declared null and void, he added.
The federal government’s lawyer requested the court for an extension to submit their reply. The court approved the plea and ordered the federal government and the respondents to submit their response by November 11.
Previously, Justice Atharminallah heard a petition, filed by a citizen named Ashiq Bhatti, against Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as PMYLS’s chairperson.
During the case’s proceeding, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Yasir Chaudhry, argued that this appointment reeked of nepotism as the government had granted the post without publishing any advertisement for the seat.
Meanwhile, the court issued notices to Maryam Nawaz, the federation and other respondents in the case and directed them to submit a reply within 15 days.
