Summary on project for supply of water from River Indus to twin cities sent to Punjab CM
The Rawalpindi commissioner has sent summary to Punjab chief minister for his approval in connection with a long term plan for supplying water from river Indus to the citizens of twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad.
Earlier, CDA had moved a summary under the directives of prime minister on this project and secretary water and power had issued instructions for making headway on this project but it was shelved.
MPA Raja Hanif apprised the Punjab chief minister that underground water reservoirs are depleting fast in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and water issue can aggravate into worst crisis in coming days. The chief minister summoned summary in this respect from WASA MD Raja Shaukat Mehmood immediately.
The relevant record based on progress achieved so far on this project and other planning was sent to chief minister Punjab through commissioner Rawalpindi. Sources said a feasibility to determine how much project will cost is likely to be prepared soon.
