Three children were killed and many others were injured when an Indian mortar shell they were playing with exploded in Toghalpur area of village Narowal on Tuesday.

The shell, which had failed to explode upon landing, was fired by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) a few days days earlier. The village minors found the unexploded shell in an open field, brought it home and began playing with it, the police reportedly said, adding that the shell suddenly exploded.

As a result, three childeren – Hunzala, Saira and Hafeezullah – were killed.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought an immediate reportof the incident from the Government of Punjab.

Recent episodes of cross-border firing by Indian BSF into Pakistan, in violation of a ceasefire agreement along the Line Of Control (LoC) between the two countires, have killed many Pakistani civilians.
