Shahbaz thanks Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for supporting polio campaign

*CM says government determined to contain menace of polio

Eradication of polio from the country is one of the top priorities of the government and National Action Plan against Polio is being implemented to provide polio-free environment to the new generation, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in a meeting with Country Coordinator of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Dr Waqar Ajmal on Monday. Advisor Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary Health Imran Nazir, Punjab Assembly Member Nadia Aziz and secretary health were also present on the occasion.

Shahbaz said that coordinated efforts are being made to check polio cases and cooperation by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation regarding eradication of polio and other facilities of public health is commendable.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Waqar Ajmal said that the government under the leadership of the chief minister is taking serious steps for the elimination of polio and his foundation will continue its cooperation regarding eradication of polio and mother and child healthcare. He expressed the confidence that like fatal disease dengue, polio will also be eradicated by the chief minister. He said that the government has formed an effective monitoring and management system regarding polio and expressed his good wishes for Shahbaz Sharif on behalf of Bill Gates.
