Pakistan recorded their biggest win in terms of runs in Test cricket by beating Australia by 356 runs on the fifth and final day of the second Test match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Moday.
The 341-run victory over India at Karachi in 2005-06 was Pakistan’s previous biggest in terms of runs while 221-run win in the first Test match of the series at Dubai was previous biggest over Australia.
The 356-run defeat was Australia’s third biggest in Test cricket. Their biggest being by 675 runs against England in 1928-29 while 480 runs defeat against West Indies at Adelaide in 1979-70 is the second biggest.
The elusive win lifts Pakistan to number three in International Cricket Council’s Test rankings behind number one South Africa and Australia.
** Pakistan’s 2-0 victory in the series was their first in 20 years against Australia..The last time Pakistan beat Australia in a Test series was in 1994-95, when they won a three-match series 1-0 at home. Since then, Pakistan have lost six and drawn one series against Australia.
** Australia scored only eight runbs while losing their last five wickets in the second innings. It has been 35 years since Australia have lost their last five wickets for fewer runs against Pakistan. They lost their last five wickets for only four runs at Melbourne in 1978-79. That day, they lost their last seven wickets for just five runs.
** Pakistan declared their first innings at 570 for six while in the second innings was declared at 293 for three. It was seventh instance overall and first time against Australia when Pakistan have declared both innings of Test.
** The win was Pakistan’s 14 under Misbah-ul-Haq. Misbah-ul-Haq now holds the joint record for the most Test wins by a Pakistan captain, along with Imran Khan and Javed Miandad. However, Misbah-ul-Haq has only captained Pakistan in 31 Tests, while Javed Miandad and Imran Khan led in 34 and 48 respectively.
