Funeral prayers of Wagah blast victims offered

*Bodies have been sent to their hometown for burial

The funeral prayer of the Rangers personnel who fell prey to Wagah suicide attack was offered at the Rangers Headquarter on Sunday night and their bodies were sent to their respective home towns for burial.

The martyred personnel include Inspector Rizwan, Lance Naik Shabir and Sultan who were performing their duty at the security barrier near Wagah border crossing.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar and Punjab DG rangers Tahir Javed attended the funeral prayer.

The death toll in yesterday`s suicide attack on a Rangers parade ceremony near the border reached 60 as another two victims succumbed to their wounds.

Several bodies have been identified. A 6-year-old victim identified as Subhan Waris belonged to Township while five others including 50-year-old Rafiq, 32-year-old Abdul Sattar, 10-year-old Mazhar and 28-year-old Umaira were from Shalimar.

Five-year-old Zabisha from Dev Samaj Road, Yasmin, 40, and Ramisha, 14, from Sandha, Rafiq, 50, from Jalo Park and Haji Shabir, 65, was resident of Ada Shabil.

Some of the deceased were from Karachi as well. Abdul Razaq, 55, from Clifton, Sadiq, 28, belonged to Shadman Town, 34-year-old Sikandar and Irfan were from Landhi.

Nine victims including Imrana Bibi, 28, Ramzan Bibi, 65, and Zubairia, 21, were residents of Samundri, Faisalabad.

Other deceased have been identified as Abdullah Iqbal and seven-year-old Nadia.

Around 38 bodies have been handed over to their relatives. Funeral prayer of nine victims was offered at Al-Qadsia Mosque. Afterwards, three bodies were sent to Peshawar, five to Karachi whereas one body was sent to Tando Adam.

FIR REGISTERED:

Meanwhile, Batapur Police Station has registered an FIR (First Information Report) against an unidentified person, who blasted himself near Wagah Border on Sunday, an official of the PS confirmed.

According to the FIR, he said, a Rangers Inspector Muhammad Tahir informed the Batapur police that he along with his other colleagues was performing duty at Wagah when, all of a sudden, an unidentified person blew himself with heavy explosives among hundreds of people who were leaving the border after witnessing the flag-lowering ceremony in the outer parking area, 500 to 600 metres away from the Pakistan-India border, at around 5:40 pm on November 2, 2014. The explosion claimed 60 lives and injured 110 other visitors, he added.

The Batapur Police Station’s official said that they were investigating the case further and hoped that they would soon arrest the mastermind of the suicide attack.
