The death toll from the suicide attack near Wagah border on Sunday night has risen to 57 on Monday as more injured succumbed to their wounds at the hospitals.
Over a 100 are said to be in critical condition because of the suicide attack near the border crossing between Pakistan and India. The bomber had struck near the food and tea stalls and the death toll and damage could have been tenfold had he managed to enter the parade ground.
Among the dead was a mother and her seven daughters who were visiting Lahore from Samundri. Their bodies were sent to their town for funeral, a news channel reported.
Bodies of three friends who had come to witness the Wagah parade from Karachi were also sent home for final rituals. The three boys were identified after their pictures were uploaded on Facebook.
So far, 44 bodies have been handed over to the families of the victims, while many are still held by the hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, sources in Rangers said they had recovered a suicide jacket during a search of the area.
