As many as 3,779 Majalis with 836 traditional processions would be held during Muharram in Rawalpindi division while 1916 Majalis and 447 Muharram mourning processions were being held during 1st Muharram to 30th in Rawalpindi district.
According to Rawalpindi Police, 316 traditional and licensed Muharram processions and 1765 Majalis of A, B and C category, from 1st Muharram to 10th, were being provided proper security cover.
As many as 6,500 policemen were deployed for the security of main Muharram processions of seventh Muharramul Harram, while over 7000 constables and police officers would provide security cover to main Muharram procession of Ashura.
As many as 14 companies of Army, 10 companies of Rangers and 40 platoons of Punjab Constabulary have been deployed to make security of the processions and Majalis foolproof.
Strict monitoring of all the processions was being conducted while 200 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras were installed here.
According to CPO Rawalpindi Hamyoun Bashir Tarar strict security arrangements were made for the security of Majalis and mourning processions.
Quick Response Force (QRF) had also been deployed for the protection of majalis and processions were being taken out during Muharramul Harram.
Surety bonds were being obtained from the managements of mourning processions and Majalis that they would abide by the code of conduct issued by the Home Department Punjab. The speakers and zakreens be made bound not to deliver fiery speeches based on sectarianism.
Special contingents of commandos and police officials were being deployed on sensitive points.
Walk through gates were being installed for main mourning processions and at sensitive majalis places. The police officials were using metal detectors along with the private guards of the Imam Bargahs and mourning procession managements. Every participant was being checked properly for processions and majalis.
