The Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday suspended an Election Tribunal’s decision to disqualify Sindh Assembly member Abdul Sattar Rajpar and stopped the conduction of by-polls in Rajper’s constituency PS-22 Nowshero Feroze.
A three-member SC bench SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Nasirul Mulk restored Rajper’s membership.
Earlier, the court admitted for hearing an appeal filed by Rajpar against the ET’s decision to disqualify Rajpar over a dispute over vote counting in constituency PS-22.
Rajper’s counsel said during the hearing that the ET had failed to review all evidences before disqualifying his client.
“The disqualification was a sheer breach of law and Constitution and was contrary to the norms of justice,” said the counsel.
He prayed the court to restore the membership of his client and stop the holding of by polls in Rajper’s constituency.
The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
