The Islamabad High Court (IHC) while hearing a petition challenging appointment of Maryam Nawaz as chairperson of Prime Minister Youth Loan Scheme (PMYLS) has issued notices to the Cabinet Divison secretary and Maryam, and sought replies from them within 15 days. The court appointed Senator Raza Rabbani from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Senator Rafiq Rajwana from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Hamid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as amicus curiae (friend of the court) in the case.

IHC’s Justice Athar Minullah IHC Thursday took up the appointment of Maryam as chairperson of PMYLS case.

Petitioner Ashiq Bhatti’s counsel Yasir Chaudhry said that Maryam’s appointment as PMYLS chairperson was made on political basis in violation of fundamental rights.

“The government appointed Maryam as chairperson of a project worth billions of rupees because she is the daughter of PM Nawaz Sharif,” said Chaudhry.

He added that the court violated different decisions of the SC in appointment of the PMYLS chairperson case and therefore the appointment of Maryam as PMYLS chairperson be nullified.

The hearing of case was adjourned for two weeks.
