8th aircraft joins PIA fleet

The PIA received delivery of its third A320 aircraft acquired on long-term Dry Lease from General Electric (GECAS). The aircraft landed at IslamabadInternationalAirport on Thursday afternoon.

The PIA is in the process of acquiring new generation fuel-efficient aircraft in its fleet. A simple ceremony was held at Islamabad airport on the arrival of A320 aircraft.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation Shujaat Azeem while sharing his views on the occasion said that their aim was the revival and restructuring of PIA as per the vision of Nawaz Sharif. The induction of latest technology fuel efficient aircraft is part of the revival strategy.

Shujaat Azeem said that this A320 aircraft would be put into operation immediately. He introduced PIA new chairman Nasser Jaffer to the media.

Talking to the media, Nasser Jaffer said with the induction of these latest technology fuel efficient aircraft, the airline would be in a better position to offer services to its passengers, improve the flight schedule of the airline and at the same time benefit the PIA in terms of fuel savings which was a major cost factor for the airline.

He said the PIA planned to induct another 10 narrow body aircraft on dry lease and 5 ATR 72 aircraft induction were also planned for being part of PIA fleet till the January 2015.

He said with the inclusion of new generation aircraft in PIA fleet, the airline would be able to restore its flights frequencies and introduce new destinations for the convenience of their passengers.
