The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday gave three-week time to the federal and provincial authorities to file comprehensive and detailed reports on enforcement of special persons’ rights.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar was hearing a petition filed by a group of special citizens seeking enforcement of Disabled Persons (Employment and Rehabilitation) Ordinance 1981.

Amin Muhammad and others pleaded to the court to order the relevant authorities to implement the ordinance concerning employment of people with disabilities.

The petitioners submitted that on December 29, 1981, Disabled Persons (Employment & Rehabilitation) Ordinance in 1981 was promulgated for rehabilitation and welfare of disabled persons but the government had failed to enforce the right of disabled persons. They said it had been settled in the law that one per cent quota would be reserved for the disabled persons but the federal as well as provincial government was denying this right to them.

Hearing of the case was adjourned till November 20.
